Faculty honored with named professorships, chairs

在秋天, four faculty members were named to endowed chairs and professorships, recognizing their contributions to advancing 贝洛伊特 through their teaching, 领导, 和奖学金. Provost Eric Boynton announced the honors at the November Academic Senate meeting.

Tuition award named for Professor 卡拉•戴维斯

The late Professor of Sociology 卡拉•戴维斯 made an outsized impact on her students. At a memorial service held to celebrate her life last October, friends announced that a tuition award is being established in her name for a student of color.

Upward momentum in the rankings

贝洛伊特 moved up five spots on the U.S. 新闻 & World Report national list of top liberal arts colleges in its “2022 Best College Rankings” and continued to receive top rankings in several foundational categories, including undergraduate teaching, first-year experience, 和价值.

Inside a course about the fleeting nature of art

Students painted Chinese water calligraphy on a sidewalk and let it dry in the sunshine, performed improvisational music, and strutted their stuff at an outdoor fashion show. It was all part of a fascinating course which challenged students to explore transitory artistic practices, then create impermanent art themselves.

Into the Wilderness

Students who traversed the Boundary Waters wilderness area in northern Minnesota last summer learned – among other things – how to think about equity in their surroundings, understand a mining controversy, and explore the nature of nature itself.
